This may just display my ignorance, but I find it extremely difficult to keep track and eventually get a hold of completed PhD theses in Assyriology and Near Eastern Archaeology that are not published by publishing houses, but distributed by services such as UMI/ProQuest.

Does anybody have experience with the search engine in ProQuest? Are there other ways for European institutions to get a full listing of Assyriological PhD theses recently completed in US or the UK?

Many thanks for your help.

If your institution subscribes to ProQuest/UMI it is easy and convenient to set up an alert. Simple go to the search page, enter your keywords ("akkadian or sumerian or cuneiform or mesopotamia or semitic" or whatever else you might choose), then press Seach. when you have your findset you will also see the opportunity to press Set Up Alert for the same set of seach variables. Follow the instructions. I have used this for several years with a high degree of success.
