Post subject:  Gilgamesh Research Paper

I'm working on a research paper concerning Gilgamesh of Sumer from the Early Dynastic II Period. As of now I've been reading different publications of The Epic of Gilgamesh. Many of which provide historical context via introductions and annotations. I've used the following sources thus far:

-Gilgamesh translated by Maureen Gallery Kovacs
-The Epic of Gilgamesh by anonymous (Penguin Epics)
-Gilgamesh by Derrek Hines

The latter publication is not a translation but a modernization of the classic epic. I found it's historical context introduction to be a great place to start and the verse, provided great insight into Gilgamesh as an idealized figure.

I was wondering if anyone here could suggest other sources that might help me with this paper. May I also say, if anyone is on this message board who was involved with any of the publications I'm using or has worked on one I'm not using yet, it'd be an honor to receive any insight or suggestions you may have.

Thank You,
Ernie Zahn

Take a look at S. Maul, Das Gilgamesch-Epos, 2005 and A. R. George, The Babylonian Gilgamesh Epic
Introduction, Critical Edition and Cuneiform Texts, 2003. With the second book you have the bibliography up to this year. See the Introduction by Maul!
Good luck
