Hello,

In his overview at Streck "Sprachen des Alten Orients" about Sumerian, Gabor Zólyomi claims (p. 34) the existence of a double-useable na(n)-Prefix in slot 1, wich in my handout to class I put thus:

na(n)-: hamtu: negativer Affirmativ, epistemisch negativ
“ist nicht möglich, dass”, “sicher nicht”
marû: Prohibitiv, negativer Wunsch/Befehl, deontisch schwach
negativ:“sollte nicht getan werden”, “soll nicht”

He also claims on the same page a epistemic /na-/, being different from /na(n-).

According to the grammars of Falkenstein (which I do not have at hand right this moment, being in the office), Thomsen (p. 194 - 199) and Edzard (p. 118 - 120), I cannot find a /na(n)-/ + hamtu as being *negative* affirmativ.
The /na-/ + hamtu I know, is positive affirmative (Thomsen p. 195, 196; Edzard p. 119).

Does anyone know examples for Zólyomi´s idea? Or does anyone have Zólyomi´s e-mail, so I could ask him directly?

Thanks a lot,

You may want to check:
